Spring got me thinking lovely light, and bright colours - so my Open Studio in May will be full of pieces that are Spring inspired. Not long now, so I must keep creating!
What a pleasure it has been to have all the Spring blossom, blue skies, and longer days - after such a depressing wet winter! We have been off camping for our first Campervan weekend, with boots and sweaters and macs of course! I even took some beading, and made some pleasing silver earrings with lightweight beads in lovely shapes - it is amazing what is made nowdays - these are Acrylic bases with copper plate on them and finally Sterling Silver on top of the copper - they are great to use and to wear.

We have had a busy time so far this summer. Once North Somerset Arts Week was over we have been away - lots of Camping and visiting Speed Hill Climbs in the Midlands and further North - very mixed weather, but we enjoyed some very lovely places to camp in - 5 van sites with views that take ones breath away - makes me feel that I should be able to paint and recreate the moods of those places, but painting isn't my thing - so I have had more fun making brooches using various shapes and styles of Mother of Pearl Buttons and little beads.
The really hot weather has made the dogs, and us, lacking in energy - as it cools down so we all seem to feel more chipper! It's really difficult to believe that, with the horrible cold winds and rain we've just suffered, that we will really be able to go camping very soon...but the dogs are ready & every time we do a bit of camper-van sorting they get in and look hopeful! The trees have greened up, the May blossom is out, and the Stinging Nettles have shot up in many more places in our wild garden than I would want - so time also to tame the nettles! I want a good patch for butterflies, but not a complete takeover! We have a courtyard wild garden with paving and planted areas, but no lawn - though the grass grows very well between the paving slabs - more to tame!!
We have lots of Forget-me-nots self sown, which inspire me to make some brooches with my Lucite flowers to look like lovely little Foreget-me-nots - and I'd love to manage some simple daisy shap So - our 10 day Arts Week is over - and it's a bit like the let down after Christmas - I dont really want to dismantle my displays, and will be sad to see Chrissie Snelling's pictures leave our walls too! ( 'though we are buying one of the prints !) So...it's mid February, and today the sky is blue, the sun shining - and I'm stuck at home on the computer, waiting for another Artist to come and Proof Read her Venue's entry in the North Somerset Arts Week 2012 Brochure.
Must admit I could do with a walk on Sand Bay Beach with the dogs on a day like this - it really clears the brain, and makes me feel good again. Bird song, space, views, and happy running dogs - bliss! We started the day badly - the Campervan, due for its MOT, took a dislike to such cold weather, and refused to start at all. Thankfully the Rescue Chap just had to give it a Jump Start, and it felt much better again, so the MOT should happen today, with luck. I'm looking forward to getting away in our camper again, with the dogs of course, and spending quiet times in a field somewhere - enjoying the views, the quiet, and doing some beading in the campervan too! I wonder whether we might get away in March - it depends so much on the weather of course. We spend some of our weekends at Speed Hill Climbs - which Andy enjoys watching, and I spend the time beading - good for both of us. |
AuthorI am Sue-Jane Barton - retired from running our Cottage Industry of making cakes to sell - so I supposedly have lots more time to do my jewellery - although it amazing how busy the days are with everything else! Andy and I live here in North Somerset with our two terriers - and we all love going off exploring Great Britain in our camper-van. I take my beads with me very often - and can be spotted sitting outside the van making jewellery - and hoping not to lose beads in the grass!! Archives
